A very nice place. I enjoyed the house, the garden and the surroundings (Ile verte). Think of having cash with you if would like to have a coffee/icecream in the caffee (card from 15 euros).

Description
The Maison de Chateaubriand, where the author lived from 1807-1817, continues the memory of its illustrious owner. Chateaubriand divided his time there between the planning of the building, the park, and his writing work. Classed as a historic monument, the house still has the atmosphere of a romantic 'chartreuse', as it was known by its occupant. The English park, which surrounds the house, is the image of this wandering traveller: Lebanon cedar, Louisiana cypress, horse chestnut ...

I hadn't expected much but the interior of the house was beautiful, both the original and the current state of preservation. It gave a lot of insight into the lives of wealthy and intelligent people in the first half of 19th century. Of course the area surrounding the house is an excellent park too, quiet and peaceful.

Très belle visite. Émerveillé par l'histoire de châteaubriand et surtout les voyages qu'il a fait. Des belles pièce à l'intérieur du château et des belles peintures pour les amoureux d'arts.
