Inaugurated on July 14, 1989, the bicentenary of the French Revolution, the Grande Arche is the emblematic monument of the La Défense business district. It is built on the historic axis of Paris and offers a unique perspective on the Arc de Triomphe, the obelisk of the Place de la Concorde and the Louvre museum. Walkers and architecture lovers admire this 110-meter-high arch, covered with granite, the original shape of which is that of a hollowed-out cube, the opening of which could contain Notre-Dame. Temporary closure of the Roof of the Grande Arche and its activities from October 1, 2020.

good place to gather with friends or kids with family. lots of restaurants, shopping malls, big space where people can enjoy. But it does not look like Paris, which contains the classical buildings. That's why I could see lots of young people.

Now this place can easily be overlooked but if you’re in the area do go to the top, take in the views and have a coffee or a snack up there and just admire the city! There’s often exhibitions and when I was there a very interesting photographic display was there which I could’ve spent much longer in but didn’t have time.

Great place, the building is great, you can go up to the sight seeing terrace, its 16 plus euro per entrance to the top. At night it makes a very artistic scenery. On windy days its good there are glass walls to make the strong wind stopped. It is seen from arc the Triumph, from there you can look in opposite direction.

If monumental architecture is meant to inspire awe, then this succeeds totally. Not only in its grand scale, but also in the very high level of architectural rigor achieved here.

While the building is quite an impressive sight from the ground level, the views from the top are actually quite disappointing. The reason for that is also obvious. Oftentimes observation decks are placed in the highest building, whereas in this case most of the buildings surrounding the Grande Arche are up to twice the height than the 110m-high arch. While you can get a decent view of the skyscrapers of La Defense, it doesn't even get close to the fantastic views from the Tour Montparnassee or the Tour Eiffel - both which over stunning 360 degree views all over Paris. Add to that the steep admission price of 15€ and the fact that there are often long queues for the single elevator and this is definitely one attraction in Paris that does not have to be on your must-see list.
