Wat Mongkut was founded by king Rama IV or King Mongkut who was the most famous Thai King in the nation history, the westerner actually know him by the famous novel written by Anna leonowens “The king and I” bud sadly this fiction was banned to pubic in Thai. This temple can be said the temple of Rama IV ‘s reign, he founded this temple and also the enclose monastery for himself and build the other closely temple in similar plan for his most beloved queen, (her name is queen Sommanas) who died in very young age cause of pregnant disorder. So, the couple of temple really a pretty romantic, like the story of Tajmahal in India but smaller in size, if you get inside the wall you can see the Buddha statue for the king standing with Buddha statue for the queen in the same basement. The architecture is unique, quite grandeur and the inside hall decorated with really fantastic highly royal artist painting, the pillar painting is different in color showed the life of Good man and evil man according to Buddhist text, the heretic as Christian and Muslim were grouped in evil man that located most far from main Buddha image that seated innermost of that hall. The temple is very peaceful but the platform in front of temple is very noisy by car parking, no tourist, if you have many time you should stop at this temple.

One of the famous temple of Bangkok built in the time of King Rama 4. Serving mostly royal related people or high ranking officials. Worth the trip to see the prestige abbot and building especially the wall paintings inside.
