The subdistrict is named after the local temple, Wat Maha Phruettharam Worawihan, or known in short as Wat Maha Phruettharam, the third grade temple of worawihan, an old monastery whose exact origin is unknown, originally named Wat Tha Kwian. The name of temple is derived from the legend about the legendary king of Ayutthaya era, Lord U-Thong. He had escaped cholera which was seriously spreading at the time. He travelled by kwian (wagon) and came to park his wagon in the area, but was told that area was the resting place from the travellers who travelled by the kwian.

A Thai Buddhist temple located at a quieter place in Bangkok and is lesser known to tourists. The entrance of this temple is ornately carved. This temple complex has 3 main halls. The first hall is a shrine, the second hall is an ordination hall that contains old Murals and the third hall houses the 19 metre long replica of the Reclining Buddha. Had to remove the footwear before entering the hall of the temple. There is a certain dress code and a code of conduct should be maintained. Dress modestly and avoid wearing sleeveless outfits. There are 4 religious spires of Khmer origin. Within the complex, there is a small tree which depicts the enlightenment of Buddha and an ornate bell tower. There is no entry fee.

Unfortunately, this was part of a scam where a man, pretending to be from London’s Four Seasons Hotel, explains how great a suit shop is and how it’s a Buddhist holiday so you’re unable to visit other temples but we’re lucky as they have a tax free day today. Needless to say, whilst on the surface this chap was very friendly, it does leave a bitter taste that someone who use a temple to scam tourists. (the man in question is pictured).

This is one of the famous market in bagkok for shopping. Differently styled clothes are availabe but the shop owners are very rude with the customers. The place is also tidy due to which you donot feel like entering in every shop. Please bargain. Otherwise they will sell goods at very very higher price.
