Wat Indharaviharn or, as it’s sometimes known, Wat Intharawihan, or the Big Buddha, stands 32 metres high (105 ft.) It is also known as Luang Pho To and is located in Samsen Road in the Phra Nakhon area of Bangkok where we were staying. Building started in 1867 but took 60 more years to complete in 1927. The topnot, called Ushnisha, is said to contain a relic of Gautama Buddha that was given by the government of Sri Lanka.

This is a very nice temple with an amazing Buddha Statue . It is 32 meters high and has been recently renovated. The official name means: Temple of the assembly hall if Indra. (Wat = temple, Indra = Indian God, Viharn = assembly hall) Around the main temple are many small temples and / or buildings for worship. There is also a museum worth seeing. The temple is alive, that means monks live there. The atmosphere is serene. Local people do their prayer and also some tourists visit. But it is not overcrowded. The temple dates back to the 18 the century. The big Buddha Statue was finished in 1928.

One of the most underrated temples in Bangkok. When everyone is crowding at Wat Pho and Wat Arun, this temple is a big change and a breather from tourists. Inside its walls are multiple temples with an outstanding 40m standing buddha. You need to find your way as it is within the residential area.

Wat Intharawihan or Wat Intharavihan is a Third Class Royal wat (temple) located in the Phra Nakhon District of Bangkok, Thailand. It is noted for its 32 metres (105 ft) high standing Buddha statue known as Luang Pho To or "Phra Si Ariyamettrai" that was erected on the inspiration of the still highly revered abbott Somdej Toh. The Wat is at the northern edge of the Banglamphu area of Phra Nakhon, Bangkok. Access to the temple is by boat along the Chao Praya River close to Thanin Wisut Kasat. Road access is through local transport. The northbound Samsen Road leads to this wat, which is hidden below the elevated expressway. Also called Wat In, of the late Ayutthaya Kingdom , when it was called Wat Bang Khunphrom Nok for the name of the suburb where it is located. The temple has an ordination hall called the Ubosot (prayer hall) also known linguistically as Bod. Its architecture reflects the style followed during the Ayutthaya Kingdom. It was refurbished in 1982. Italian marble is used to decorate the lower part of the hall and the walls are decorated with traditional paintings. The sema boundary posts marking the limits of the Ubosot are mounted over small naga images. The murals on the walls have the theme of the daily life. There is also a practice at this venue to make and sell amulets.
