Sanam Luang is a multi-purpose, leisure park at the heart of Bangkok, located in the north of The Grand Palace near Chao Phraya River. Sanam Luang was formerly called Thung Phra Mane, which means the royal crematorium ground in Thai, as it was used as a location for several crematoriums of members of the royal family.

The beautiful yellow golden structure from photos is not there anymore. They just built it when king died as a temple for his soul and then they tore it down next year. So for tourists this can be skipped since it's just a big field...

National Father's Day. A big celebration on Sanam Luang. When there is no Celebration, it is an open field. Good to take a rest, relax and have a look on the Grand Palace. Specially by night it is wonderful and you can make awesome pictures.

Very interesting. Lots of art telling h in story. Architecture is beautiful, lots of walking, lots of people; estimate 50000 daily.

Great area for activity in center of Bangkok. You can find lots of interesting places around here. It locate near Chao Phraya River and Grand Palace.

I visited Sanam Luang for new year's eve. Monks and Thai people praying which is really amazing and quite religious experience. Too bad I see some part like still under development and dirts are everywhere. If you look for place to eat there's none in Sanam Luang, but you can walk to Khaosan Road which is nearby
