Excellent museum to enjoy some of his best pictures and the pictures of related artists. Excellent to spend there the day and let you mind blows. I would recommend to booked in advance, so you can do everything much faster. A good point? The cloakroom is completely free

Every time I visit Amsterdam this museum is on top of my favourite spots. Quite easily spending all day here wandering through the extensive collection of Van Gogh. Beautifully arranged as you go from floor to floor stopping at each entrance to read about his life during that particular period. My favourite museum in the world by far!

Exceptional! Book online to get in quick, even if it's a euro more. We were there mid March and had to wait outside with temps of 0! We had bought before and had an allotted time but still had to wait a bit to get in, but the people waiting to buy tickets looked miserable and frozen! Very well laid out and with stairs and elevator everything was easy access. The works there are incredible, awe inspiring. Get the guide for five euros. There was so much I didn't know about him. It's really quite a sad story. There's also lots of background information on key works so well worth the cash. The building is wonderful. The Dutch use of light is ingenious. You're allowed to get pretty close, close enough to see his brush strokes. I visited this museum for the first time 33 years ago as a backpacker and now as a 50 something year old I have certainly appreciated it more. Must see!

Excellent museum documenting the life of one of the most renowned painters of all time, Van Gogh, from his childhood to his deteriorating mental health and tragic and untimely death. Along the different floors that comprise this building, we get to know not only his artistic inspirations (some more known than others, how many of us were aware of the influence of Japanese art in his own paintings?), but also his relationship with his family, especially with his brother Theo, and with other artists such as Paul Gauguin. The museum is not excessively big so it can be thoroughly explored in 1'5-2 hours, but I would advise buying tickets beforehand since it tends to get quite overcrowded, even on weekdays.

This is a must see in Amsterdam. For someone who is not an art connoisseur yet a lover of history and innate talent this is such an easy way to appreciate the significance of Van Gogh. The museum is so informative yet almost effortless in its presentation. My 16 year old was enthralled, yet the least artistic you could meet.
