Frans Hals Museum - Hal (until March 29 2018:[1] De Hallen Haarlem) is one of the two locations of the Frans Hals Museum, located on the Grote Markt, Haarlem, Netherlands, where modern and contemporary art is on display in alternating presentations. The emphasis is on contemporary photograph and video presentations, with the focus on Man and society. The museum consists of three different buildings, the Vleeshal (Flesher's hall) on the east side and the Verweyhal (named for Kees Verwey) on the west side are two large "halls" sandwiching the small entrance building. All three buildings are National Heritage sites today.

Nice museum to highlight the contribution of Haarlem's native son, Frans Hals, and his contemporaries. Its collection was divided into two distinct areas: classic and modern. Despite its size, it does a good job depicting both eras quite well. A good walk between the two buildings. It is easy to spend 2 or 3 hours to cover both sites. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. Quite a good find in Haarlem.

Today we took our granddaughter age 5 to the museum and wondered if she would find much interest, she was given a quiz to answer and things to do that kept her well occupied and happy. We enjoyed the art along the way both old masters and modern along side in most of the 20+ rooms. Don't miss the dolls house it is signposted.

Interesting building, artwork and other antiquities. Lovely, peaceful central courtyard. Mostly wheelchair accessible. There are only two rooms which cannot be accessed. There are accessible amenities. Friendly staff, well worth a visit.

Such a good collection, and they do a wonderful job of contextualizing why his paintings are so special. I loved staring at the effects of his textures, and how alive his subjects seemed. I think anyone with an interest in art/portraiture would be charmed by this collection.

Enjoyed it but an officious staff member runied my visit, going on about the rucksack over my shoulder which the man at the sales desk didn't mention. He didn't say there were boxes to put them in. One to avoid next time.
