By far one of my husband's and I favorite spots during our Netherlands/Amsterdam trip. Insanely stunning views from the top. Will hope to visit again

Brederode Castle, also called the Ruins of Brederode, is located near Santpoort-Zuid. The castle was founded in the second half of the 13th century by William I van Brederode. William was a descendant of the lords van Teylingen, who were related to the counts of Holland.

Beautiful ruin that greats the feeling how it used to be in a wonderful way. volenteers whom are very friendly and eager to explain and tell you more. Will definitely visit again with the kids when they are a bit older. Check for the events that they do there for kids in advance.

Great experience of a castle that comes along with an important piece of Dutch history.

Fantastic partly ruined, partly restored castle. I really liked the ruined sections as it allows your mind to create what it would have looked like which is fun. €5 entry is well worth it. Also had rather detailed map of what the water ways looked like at that time which shows you how long the Dutch have been battling with the ocean and reshaping the land they call their own, especially interesting to compare the old map with the current google maps and you will see how much "land" has been reclaimed from the ocean. Well worth a visit.
