Amsterdam Centre for Architecture is an organisation that was founded in 1986 that "concentrates its activities in Amsterdam and the surrounding area." Arcam focuses on architecture, urban design, and landscape architecture. Arcam is the oldest and largest of more than forty local Dutch architecture centers.

The center has got an architecture lecture and tour every Friday, which covers the whole history of Amsterdam housing very thoroughly. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and the tour was eye opening. I highly recommend it to anyone who's got an interest in architecture.

The “Talk & Walk” on Friday afternoons is most interesting and highly recommended. First a talk on the development of Amsterdam throughout the ages, and then a tour by foot among interesting buildings, mostly close to the IJ river. The tour ends at the Eye film museum.

In the middle of a heavy rain shower this museum saved me and my father, with its free admittance =) The man who welcomed us was really kind, and we passed some time reading panels(english available) on amsterdam architecture. Thanks again! Ciao, a presto!
